A pub since the 1800's, the name relates to the regulation of the size of dogs that could hunt in the New Forest in the 11th century.
Under Norman Law only those dogs that were small enough to creep through the Crown Stirrup were allowed to roam the Forest.
The original 'Crown Stirrup' still hangs in the Verderers' Court of the 17th century Queen's House in Lyndhurst High Street.
